Baltimore Chiropractor Shares Few Insights on the Practice
As Baltimore chiropractors typically explain, chiropractic is a hands-on therapy which involves the diagnosis and treatment of neuromusculoskeletal disorders — that is, unhealthy conditions in the muscles and bones. It incorporates adjusting the bones and joints in a person's spine via pulling, twisting or pushing. Others use electrical stimulation, heat, or ultrasound to relax a patient's muscles prior to making any spinal adjustment.
In spite of research showing chiropractic to be effective in treating ailments like headaches, low back pain, and neck pain, some people share a common concern whether or not the practice is indeed safe. An expert on chiropractic like Dr. Brian L. Seymore CCCN (Certified Clinical Chiropractic Neurologist) offers a few things about chiropractic to help shed light on the subject.
Facts
According to the Annals of Internal Medicine, chiropractic is the most regulated yet best recognized among the various complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) professions. It is also the third largest doctoral-level health care profession after medicine and dentistry. Chiropractors seek to eliminate pain, prevent further injury, and restore muscle or skeletal joint functions.
Being a chiropractor and a specialist on Baltimore pain management is not something physicians can just do on a whim. Doctors wishing to practice the field must undergo at least four years of professional study in a program recognized by the Council on Chiropractic Education. Like other medical professions, chiropractors must be licensed by the state by passing national board examinations before being allowed to practice.
Statistics
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) says there are more than 60,000 active chiropractic licenses throughout the country, at least 25 of these licensed chiropractors practice in Baltimore alone. The District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and all US states officially recognize chiropractic as a healing profession for people to consult if they choose to.
Data from ACA also indicates that Americans spend at least $50 billion per year on back pain alone, of which approximately 2 percent of the workforce are compensated for back injuries. Experts say as many as 80 percent of the entire population is going to experience back pain at some point, given the stress and aggravation of post-modern times.
Finally, it is recommended that people visit a Baltimore chiropractor or a practitioner in the field anywhere within their state if they experience back pain that won’t resolve quickly. A chiropractor might have you undergo chiropractic adjustments, muscle or ligament physiotherapy, rehabilitative exercises, or a combination of these methods with the end that the treatment heals and fixes the pain, and prevents the problem from recurring.
