Chiro 101 Series: What is Spinal Decompression?
What is spinal decompression?
Spinal decompression is a safe and effective treatment available for serious spinal disc injuries. Spinal decompression gently relieves the spine at the precise level of the injured disc, actually taking the pressure off of the nerves that exit on each side. The computerized system focuses on the specific injured discs and promotes a gentle pumping of the discs, which actually forces the exchange of oxygen and crucial nutrients into the discs and forces the waste products out. This also relieves pressure off of the spine and off of the discs, further helping them to heal.
Is it painful?
No, absolutely not. Some patients feel a sense of relief, while others feel nothing at all. Many patients even report falling asleep during the treatment.
Am I a candidate for care?
Not everyone will benefit from spinal decompression therapy. A complete consultation and various diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, MRI, NCV/EMG, may be necessary to determine exactly what is causing your problem and if you are a candidate for care.
If I am eligible for spinal decompression, how many treatments will I need?
A thorough examination and diagnostic tests will be required to determine the extent of your particular problem and therefore exactly what care you require.
How much will my treatment cost?
Insurance may participate with the cost of your care. Your insurance will be verified prior to any treatment. Financing is available to assist patients with financial needs when necessary.
